Overview | |
Description | The proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase Pim1 plays a key role in promoting cell survival and multiplication, thereby conferring a significant advantage in the development of tumors. Pim1 exerts its oncogenic effects through several mechanisms, including the regulation of MYC transcriptional activity, cell cycle progression, and the inhibition of proapoptotic proteins such as BAD, MAP3K5, and FOXO3. By phosphorylating MYC, Pim1 increases MYC protein stability and transcriptional activity. The strong synergism between Pim1 and MYC in promoting tumorigenesis may be partly explained by Pim1's ability to stabilize and enhance MYC function. |
Other names | PIM1, also known as Oncogene PIM 1 or pim 1 kinase, is a protein that plays a role in cancer development. It belongs to the PIM family of oncogenes, which also includes Pim2 and Pim3. PIM1 is a serine/threonine protein kinase, specifically the 44 kDa isoform of the Pim 1 kinase. It is associated with the proviral integration site 1 and proviral integration site 2. PIM1_HUMAN is the gene symbol for PIM1 in humans. This oncogene has been linked to various cellular processes involved in cancer progression. Its functions are regulated by phosphorylation events and it has been identified as a potential target for cancer therapy. |

Application | The recommended dilutions for WB are 1:500-1:2000, for IF/ICC are 1:100-1:500, and for ELISA using peptides are 1:20000-1:40000. To ensure optimal results, it is important to follow these dilution guidelines when using these assays. Dilutions outside of the recommended range may result in inaccurate or non-specific results, which can greatly affect the validity of the experiment. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the appropriate dilution for each assay before proceeding with the experiment. |

Background | PIM1 is a proto-oncogene with serine/threonine kinase activity. It plays a crucial role in promoting cell survival and proliferation, making it a vital player in tumorigenesis. PIM1 exerts its oncogenic activity through several mechanisms, including regulating MYC transcriptional activity, cell cycle progression, and inhibiting proapoptotic proteins such as BAD, MAP3K5, and FOXO3. |
Tissue specificity | Expressed primarily in cells of the hematopoietic and germline lineages. Isoform 1 and isoform 2 are both expressed in prostate cancer cell lines. |
Posttranslational modification | Autophosphorylated on both serine/threonine and tyrosine residues. Phosphorylated. Interaction with PPP2CA promotes dephosphorylation.Ubiquitinated, leading to proteasomal degradation. |
Celluar localization | Cytosol;Nucleus;Plasma Membrane; |
UniPort | P11309 |
