Description

Cytochrome c plays a crucial role in electron-transport and is located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space as part of the respiratory chain. However, upon apoptotic stimulation, cytochrome c is released from mitochondria, and it associates with procaspase-9/Apaf 1. Through this complex, caspase-9 is activated from its inactive proenzyme state to its active form. This event triggers the activation of caspase-3, eventually inducing apoptosis. The conserved nature of cytochrome c highlights its importance in cellular death pathways and its potential for therapeutic intervention.

Other namesSomatic cytochrome c, also known as CYC or HCS, is a protein that plays a critical role in a variety of cellular functions. CYC is encoded by the CYC_HUMAN gene and is essential for the electron transport chain, which is responsible for generating ATP, the primary energy source for the cell. In addition to its role in energy production, CYC is also involved in apoptosis, or programmed cell death. When released from the mitochondria, CYC binds to caspases, which are enzymes that promote cell death. Overall, CYC is a highly versatile protein with important functions in cellular metabolism and survival, making it an indispensable component of any living organism.

ApplicationWe recommend using the following dilution ratios for different applications: Western blotting (WB) - 1:500-1:2000, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - 1:50-1:200, Immunofluorescence/Immunocytochemistry (IF/ICC) - 1:100-1:500, and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) using a peptide antigen - 1:20000-1:40000. These dilutions have been optimized to ensure optimal antibody performance in each specific assay.

Stability & StorageTo preserve the sample, it is recommended to store it at a temperature of -20 °C for up to one year. It is important to avoid exposing the sample to repeated freeze/thaw cycles, as this can compromise its integrity and stability. Taking these precautions should help ensure that the sample remains usable and reliable for future testing and analysis.
Storage bufferRabbit IgG in phosphate buffered saline , pH 7.4, 150mM NaCl, 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol.Store at -20 °C.Stable for 12 months from date of receipt.

Target

Background

Electron carrier protein. The oxidized form of the cytochrome c heme group can accept an electron from the heme group of the cytochrome c1 subunit of cytochrome reductase. Cytochrome c then transfers this electron to the cytochrome oxidase complex, the final protein carrier in the mitochondrial electron-transport chain.

Posttranslational modificationBinds 1 heme group per subunit.Phosphorylation at Tyr-49 and Tyr-98 both reduce by half the turnover in the reaction with cytochrome c oxidase, down-regulating mitochondrial respiration.
