Description

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a protein found in the serum of patients and has been discovered to be a non-antibody precipitin of the C-polysaccharide from pneumococci. During acute infections, the amount of circulating CRP increases by 100-1000 fold and is routinely measured to detect or monitor many human diseases. Even minor elevations of CRP have been shown to predict cardiovascular events in patients with coronary heart disease. Interestingly, CRP promotes host defense by efficiently activating the classical C cascade and has been shown to be opsonic. These activities are responsible for nonspecific host defense activities that provide protection in the preimmune stage of acute infections. Interestingly, IL-1 and IL-6 are known to stimulate CRP biosynthesis and increase its presence in the bloodstream. Clearly, CRP plays a vital role in our body's response to infections and may also provide important diagnostic and therapeutic benefits in a wide range of medical conditions.

Other namesC-reactive protein, also known as pentraxin 1 or PTX1, is a short molecule that is highly related to C-reactive protein. It is encoded by the CRP gene (CRP_HUMAN) and has an amino acid sequence ranging from position 1 to 205. Another name for this protein is MGC88244. PTX1 is a part of the pentraxin family and plays a vital role in the immune system. By rearranging the content, we can understand that PTX1 is a variant of C-reactive protein with similar properties and functions.
SourceRabbit
SpecificityThe total CRP level can be effectively detected by the CRP Antibody, which specifically recognizes endogenous CRP protein.
Species ReactivityHuman;Mouse;Rat;Monkey
AntigenCRP
ApplicationThe recommended dilutions for Western blot are 1:500 to 1:2000, for immunohistochemistry they are 1:50 to 1:200, and for ELISA using peptide it is suggested to use 1:20000 to 1:40000 dilution. To summarize, in order to obtain reliable results, it is important to dilute your samples according to the recommended values for each assay. Dilution levels outside of the suggested range may lead to weak or non-specific signals, affecting the quality of your experiment.

Target

Background

Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells.

Tissue specificityFound in plasma.
Celluar localizationExtracellular region or secreted;
UniPortP02741

Western blot analysis of extracts of HepG2 cells, using CRP antibody.
