Description

A crucial protein called CBP acts as a protein acetyltransferase, holding the ability to activate histones transcriptionally. Notably, it acetylates the NCOA3 coactivator. CBP exhibits a specific affinity for phosphorylated CREB1 and significantly enhances its transcriptional activity, particularly towards cAMP-responsive genes. However, when the KIX domain undergoes methylation by CARM1, the association between CBP and CREB is disrupted, impeding CREB signaling and triggering the activation of the apoptotic response. CBP is commonly found in a complex alongside NCOA2, NCOA3, IKKA, IKKB, and IKBKG. Additionally, it is likely a component of a complex involving HIF1A and EP300.
