Overview

Description

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a progressive disorder of the peripheral nervous system that causes weakness and atrophy. Initially affecting the peroneal muscles, it later progresses to the distal muscles of the arms. This disease is classified into two main groups based on electrophysiologic properties and histopathology.

Other names

Charcot Marie Tooth neuropathy X linked, also known as CMTX 1 or CMTX, is a genetic disorder that affects the peripheral nerves. It is caused by a mutation in the gene Connexin-32, which is also referred to as CX 32 or Cx32. This gene encodes for a protein called Gap junction beta 1 protein, or GJB1. Another name for this protein is GAP junction 28 kDa liver protein. The Gap junction beta 1 protein is responsible for forming gap junctions, which are channels that allow for communication between cells. In individuals with CMTX, the mutation in the GJB1 gene disrupts the function of these gap junctions, leading to the characteristic symptoms of the disorder. These symptoms often include muscle weakness and wasting, numbness and tingling in the extremities, and difficulties with coordination and balance. It is important for individuals with CMTX to receive proper medical care and support, as there is currently no cure for the disorder. By understanding the underlying genetic cause of CMTX and its effects on cellular communication, researchers hope to develop new treatments and interventions for this condition in the future.

Application

IHC at dilutions ranging from 1:50 to 1:200, IF/ICC at dilutions ranging from 1:100 to 1:500, WB at dilutions ranging from 1:500 to 1:2000, and ELISA (peptide) at dilutions ranging from 1:20000 to 1:40000 are the recommended dilutions for different applications.

Immunogen

A peptide that is synthesized using human Connexin 32 serves as the basis for creating a highly similar content. By rearranging the original content, we can ensure that the generated text is still based on the same information.

Target

Background

A connexon is a pair of transmembrane channels that are clustered together to form a gap junction. These closely packed connexons allow substances of low molecular weight to diffuse from one cell to an adjacent cell. This mechanism facilitates intercellular communication and the sharing of important molecules between cells. The structure and function of connexons are crucial for the proper functioning of tissues and organs, and their dysfunction can lead to a range of diseases and disorders. Overall, the connexon is a key component in the complex network of intercellular communication within the body.
