Overview

Description

MAST2 is a protein that provides a link between the dystrophin/utrophin network and microtubule filaments through the syntrophins. The affinities of DMD or UTRN for associated proteins may be altered by phosphorylation. This protein has a role in spermatid maturation as part of a multi-protein complex. Additionally, MAST2 regulates the synthesis of IL-12 in macrophages in response to lipopolysaccharides by forming a complex with TRAF6, which inhibits TRAF6 NF-kappaB activation. Two different isoforms of this protein are produced in human beings via alternative splicing.

Microtubule-associated serine/threonine-protein kinase 2, also known as MAST2 or MAST205, is an enzyme encoded by several gene names, including KIAA0807, FLJ39200, RP4-533D7.1 and OTTHUMP00000009697. This kinase plays a crucial role in microtubule regulation by phosphorylating various microtubule-associated proteins, which affects cell morphology, motility and division. MAST2 is mainly expressed in the nervous system and testis and has been implicated in neuronal development and spermatogenesis.
