Nampt, also known as nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase or Pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor 1 homolog, is a critical enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). Background

Visfatin is a unique adipocytokine that is secreted by visceral fat. Also called Pre-B cell colony enhancing factor, Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase, Pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor 1 homolog, NAmPRTase, Nampt, and PBEF, visfatin has been found to phosphorylate AMP-activated protein kinase in mouse C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Furthermore, visfatin has been observed to upregulate glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) mRNA and protein levels and stimulate the translocation of GLUT4 to the plasma membrane. Visfatin therefore plays a crucial role in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, making it an exciting target for therapeutic interventions.
