Description

This particular gene is responsible for producing a crucial enzyme called UDP-glucuronosyltransferase. This enzyme plays a major role in the glucuronidation pathway by converting various small lipophilic molecules, including steroids, bilirubin, hormones, and drugs, into water-soluble metabolites that can be easily excreted from the body. Interestingly, this gene is part of a complex locus that encompasses multiple UDP-glucuronosyltransferases.
