Description

SCNN1B, also referred to as SCNEB, ENaCB, Beta-NaCH, and Beta-ENaC, is a member of the amiloride-sensitive sodium channel (TC 1.A.6) family and a part of the SCNN1B subfamily. It is a non-voltage-sensitive ion channel that permits the passage of sodium ions when exposed to the diuretic amiloride. By residing in the apical membrane of epithelial cells, SCNN1B facilitates the transport of luminal sodium and the osmotically coupled movement of water. Notably, it regulates the reabsorption of sodium in various organs including the kidney, colon, lung, and sweat glands. Moreover, SCNN1B also contributes to the perception of taste. To summarize, SCNN1B is an important component in the regulation of sodium balance and taste perception across multiple physiological systems.

Other namesThe Amiloride-sensitive sodium channel subunit beta is also known as several other names, including Beta NaCH, Beta-ENaC, and ENaC beta. It is a crucial part of the Epithelial Na+ channel, acting as the beta subunit. Other names for this subunit include Epithelial Na+ channel beta subunit, Epithelial sodium channel beta 2 subunit, and Epithelial sodium channel beta 3 subunit.
This subunit is also known as Nonvoltage gated sodium channel 1 beta subunit, Nonvoltage gated sodium channel 1 subunit beta, Nonvoltage-gated sodium channel 1 subunit beta, and Sodium channel nonvoltage gated 1 beta. It is particularly notable for its involvement in Liddle syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes high blood pressure and low potassium levels.
Overall, the Amiloride-sensitive sodium channel subunit beta is a crucial factor in the function of the Epithelial Na+ channel, and its various names all refer to the critical role it plays in maintaining proper sodium and potassium levels in the body.

SpecificityThe antibody named SCNN1B is capable of detecting total SCNN1B at its endogenous levels. This information can be presented in a slightly modified manner as follows: The total amount of SCNN1B present in the body's naturally occurring state can be detected by using the SCNN1B antibody.
Species ReactivityHuman;Mouse;Rat
Predictive reaction speciesRabbit;Xenopus;
AntigenSCNN1B
ApplicationThe dilution ranges for WB, IHC, IF/ICC, and ELISA (peptide) assays are as follows: WB - 1:500 to 1:2000, IHC - 1:50 to 1:200, IF/ICC - 1:100 to 1:500, and ELISA (peptide) - 1:20000 to 1:40000. These dilutions ensure optimal detection and analysis of target proteins or peptides in different experimental applications. It is important to carefully determine the appropriate dilutions for each specific experiment to achieve reliable and accurate results.

Target

Background

Sodium permeable non-voltage-sensitive ion channel inhibited by the diuretic amiloride. Mediates the electrodiffusion of the luminal sodium (and water, which follows osmotically) through the apical membrane of epithelial cells. Plays an essential role in electrolyte and blood pressure homeostasis, but also in airway surface liquid homeostasis, which is important for proper clearance of mucus. Controls the reabsorption of sodium in kidney, colon, lung and sweat glands. Also plays a role in taste perception.

Tissue specificityDetected in placenta, lung and kidney (PubMed:7762608). Expressed in kidney (at protein level) (PubMed:22207244).
Posttranslational modificationPhosphorylated on serine and threonine residues. Aldosterone and insulin increase the basal level of phosphorylation.N-glycosylated. N-glycosylation is required for interaction with BPIFA1.
Celluar localizationExtracellular region or secreted;Plasma Membrane;
