In addition to its role as a riboflavin transporter, it also serves as a receptor for Porcine Endogenous Retrovirus A and is commonly referred to as PERVA receptor 2 or PERV-A receptor 2. Alternative names for this protein include hRFT1, Riboflavin transporter 1, and Putative G protein coupled receptor GPCR42. It has also been assigned the OTTHUMP00000125300 identifier. The S52A1_HUMAN designation refers to the protein's sequence as a member of the solute carrier family 52, riboflavin transporter, member 1. Despite its varied designations, G protein coupled receptor 172B plays an important role in both the uptake of riboflavin and the facilitation of PERV-A infection in cells.
