Description

Based on similarities to proteins observed in other organisms, there are indications that this gene may code for an N-acetyltransferase; however, the precise functions of the protein it encodes are still unknown.

Other names

One potential protein of interest is 5730450D16Rik, also known as Tbdn 1 or tubedown-1. This protein has also been called Transcriptional coactivator tubedown 100, highlighting its potential role in regulating gene expression. It has also been associated with NMDA receptor signaling, as it is a part of the NMDA receptor-regulated protein 1 complex.
Additionally, the N-terminal acetyltransferase Naa15 (or N(alpha) acetyltransferase 15, NatA auxiliary subunit) has also been identified as a potential target. This protein is involved in post-translational modification of other proteins, specifically the acetylation of the N-terminus. The N-terminal acetyltransferase A (NatA) complex has an auxiliary subunit that exhibits alpha (N-terminal) acetyltransferase activity. This NAT activity is crucial for proper growth and development of various organs, including the vasculature, hematopoietic system, and neurons. It also plays a vital role in regulating retinal neovascularization in adult ocular endothelial cells. Furthermore, this auxiliary subunit, in conjunction with XRCC6 and XRCC5 (Ku80), enhances transcription from the osteocalcin promoter.

Tissue specificity

Testis and ocular endothelial cells exhibit high levels of expression for this gene, indicating its significance in these tissues. Additionally, it can be detected in the brain, specifically in the corpus callosum, as well as in the heart, colon, bone marrow, and various adult tissues including the thyroid, liver, pancreas, mammary and salivary glands, lung, ovary, urogenital system, and upper gastrointestinal tract, albeit at a lower level. Increased expression of this gene has been observed in gastric cancer, papillary thyroid carcinomas, and a Burkitt lymphoma cell line called Daudi.
