Description

MRC2 is a lectin receptor with calcium-dependent lectin activity that may have a role in endocytosis. It is capable of internalizing glycosylated ligands from the extracellular space and releasing them in an endosomal compartment via clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Moreover, it may play a crucial role in controlling the level of the plasminogen activation system via PLAUR/PLAU, potentially regulating protease activity at the cell surface. Additionally, MRC2 may be involved in cellular uptake, remodeling, and degradation of extracellular collagen matrices. Its role in cancer progression and chronic tissue destructive diseases is also significant, as it may play a part in collagen turnover regulation.
