Description

The GST superfamily comprises several subfamilies, and each subfamily has unique members with different functions. GSTP1, a member of the Pi subfamily, is primarily involved in the conjugation of reduced glutathione to hydrophobic electrophiles. GSTM1, a cytoplasmic protein, belongs to the Mu family and performs similar functions as GSTP1-1. GSTT1, a cytoplasmic homodimer in the Theta family, is expressed in erythrocytes and actively participates in glutathione conjugation. Additionally, GSTT1 exhibits glutathione peroxidase activity when exposed to cumene hydroperoxide. Overall, each member of the GST superfamily has unique biochemical roles in cellular metabolism and plays a crucial function in the cellular detoxification process.

Other namesGlutathione S transferase 5, also known as GST 5 5 or GST CL1, is an enzyme that plays a critical role in the body's detoxification processes. Specifically, this enzyme is part of the glutathione S-transferase family, which catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to various electrophilic compounds.
One isoform of this enzyme, Glutathione S transferase theta 1 (GSTT1), is particularly well-studied in humans. It is known to be involved in the metabolism of drugs and environmental pollutants, and is also thought to play a role in protecting against oxidative stress.
Despite its importance, the exact functions of GSTT1 and other members of the glutathione S-transferase family are not yet fully understood. However, ongoing research in this area holds promise for developing new therapies for a wide range of diseases and conditions.

ApplicationThe recommended dilution ratios for using this antibody are as follows: for Western Blotting, dilute at 1:500 to 1:2000; for Immunohistochemistry, dilute at 1:50 to 1:200; and for ELISA using peptide, dilute at 1:20000 to 1:40000. These dilutions will provide optimal results for detecting the target protein. It is important to follow these guidelines in order to obtain accurate and reliable results.

Target

Background

Conjugation of reduced glutathione to a wide number of exogenous and endogenous hydrophobic electrophiles. Acts on 1,2-epoxy-3-(4-nitrophenoxy)propane, phenethylisothiocyanate 4-nitrobenzyl chloride and 4-nitrophenethyl bromide. Displays glutathione peroxidase activity with cumene hydroperoxide.

Tissue specificityFound in erythrocyte. Expressed at low levels in liver. In lung, expressed at low levels in Clara cells and ciliated cells at the alveolar/bronchiolar junction. Absent from epithelial cells of larger bronchioles.
Celluar localizationCytosol;Extracellular region or secreted;
