Other names	The enzyme 3-galactosyl-O-glycosyl-glycoprotein beta-1; 6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 7 plays an essential role in glycoprotein biosynthesis. Also known as GCNT or C20orf105, this enzyme belongs to the glucosaminyl (N-acetyl) transferase family, and is responsible for transferring N-acetylglucosamine to beta-1,6-linked galactose residues on O-glycans. This activity results in the formation of a type of glycan known as core 2 O-glycans, which are critical for proper cell-cell adhesion and immune system function. Beta-1,3-galactosyl-O-glycosyl-glycoprotein beta-1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 7 is highly conserved across species and is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the liver, kidney, and pancreas. Dysfunction of this enzyme has been associated with various diseases, including cancer and immune disorders.
