| Other names | Carboxypeptidase E (CPE), also known as carboxypeptidase H, is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the processing of prohormones. It is encoded by the CPE gene and is primarily found in the chromaffin granules of the adrenal medulla and pancreatic islets. Carboxypeptidase H is synthesized as a precursor form, which undergoes post-translational modifications to generate the active enzyme. CPE is involved in the cleavage of C-terminal basic residues from peptide hormone precursors, resulting in the production of active peptide hormones. It has a preference for substrates that contain basic amino acids such as arginine and lysine. The enzyme is also capable of processing and inactivating neuropeptides, such as enkephalins. In addition to its role in prohormone processing, CPE has been implicated in other physiological processes. For example, it has been found to be associated with insulin granules, suggesting its involvement in insulin secretion. Furthermore, CPE activity can be stimulated by cobalt, which leads to increased processing of prohormones. In summary, carboxypeptidase E (CPE), or carboxypeptidase H, is an important enzyme involved in the processing of prohormones. It cleaves C-terminal basic residues from peptide hormone precursors and is associated with insulin granules. Its activity can be stimulated by cobalt, making it a key player in the regulation of peptide hormone production. |

| Application | Our recommended dilution ratios for Western blotting (WB) range from 1:500 to 1:1000. For immunofluorescence (IF) or immunocytochemistry (ICC) experiments, we suggest dilutions ranging from 1:100 to 1:500. When performing ELISA assays with peptide substrates, we advise dilutions of 1:20000 to 1:40000. These dilution ratios will help achieve optimal results in your experiments. Please note that it is important to carefully determine the appropriate dilution for each specific experiment to ensure accurate and reliable data. |
