Other names	Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is also known as amylin or diabetes-associated peptide (DAP), and is secreted alongside insulin by pancreatic beta cells. It is a peptide hormone that regulates glucose metabolism and has been implicated in the development of type 2 diabetes. The human IAPP gene encodes a protein consisting of 37 amino acids, which can aggregate to form amyloid deposits in the extracellular space of pancreatic islets.
