Background

The TEA/ATTS DNA-binding domain is present in this gene product, belonging to the transcriptional enhancer factor (TEF) family of transcription factors. Its expression is predominantly seen in skeletal muscle. By binding to the M-CAT regulatory element located in promoters of muscle-specific genes, it governs the expression of these genes. Multiple isoforms of this gene have been identified, resulting from alternative splicing. Interestingly, some of these isoforms utilize a non-AUG (UUG) initiation codon for translation.
