It belongs to the Cancer/testis antigen family and is expressed in various cancers and testis. It has also been found to play a role in hyperplastic polyposis syndrome, a condition characterized by the growth of multiple polyps in the large intestine. The function of tomoregulin-2 is not fully understood, but it is believed to be involved in cell proliferation and differentiation. Its structure suggests that it may interact with a variety of ligands, including growth factors and extracellular matrix proteins. The expression of tomoregulin-2 is tightly regulated, and its aberrant expression has been linked to the development of cancer.
