| Other names | GAF1, also known as gamma-SNAP-associated factor 1 or KIAA0857, is a phosphoprotein pp75 that interacts with the RAB11 family proteins. It is also referred to as Rab11 family-interacting protein 5 or Rab11-FIP5. Another name for GAF1 is Rab11 interacting protein or Rab11-interacting protein Rip11. Its presence has been identified in humans and is denoted by the protein code RFIP5_HUMAN. GAF1 plays a crucial role in intracellular vesicle trafficking and membrane transport. By associating with gamma-SNAP, GAF1 facilitates the targeting and fusion of vesicles with their respective target membranes. This interaction enhances the efficiency and specificity of intracellular transport processes. Phosphorylation of GAF1 regulates its activity and involvement in membrane trafficking pathways. It has been observed that GAF1 undergoes phosphorylation at specific sites, which further modulates its interaction with RAB11 and other associated proteins. This mechanism ensures tight regulation of vesicle trafficking events in different cellular contexts. The diverse names, such as GAF 1, Gaf-1, and GAF1, refer to the same protein entity and underscore the significant interest and research focused on this molecule. Understanding the functions and regulatory mechanisms of GAF1 provides valuable insights into fundamental cellular processes and their relevance in health and disease. |
