Other names	Enhancer of split groucho 1, also known as E(Sp1) homolog, is a protein that belongs to the transducin-like enhancer family. It is encoded by the TLE1 gene and is expressed in a variety of tissues. ESG1 is one of several enhancer of split groucho-like proteins that function as transcriptional regulators. Its role in gene regulation is still being studied, but it is believed to interact with transcription factors and chromatin-modifying enzymes to regulate gene expression. GRG1 is another name for ESG1, which reflects its function as a co-repressor that interacts with the Groucho protein to inhibit gene expression. Overall, ESG1 is an important contributor to the complex network of transcriptional regulation that controls gene expression in cells.
