Description	The encoded protein is a glycoprotein that spans the cell membrane and promotes binding between newly formed major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules and the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP). TAP is necessary for the transport of antigenic peptides across the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. This interaction is critical for optimal loading of peptides onto MHC class I molecules. A single TAP molecule can bind up to four complexes of MHC class I and this protein. The protein has a C-terminal double-lysine motif (KKKAE) that helps keep membrane proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum. It is localized within the major histocompatibility complex on chromosome 6. Alternative splicing results in three transcript variants that encode different isoforms.
