Description

SMF30, also referred to as SMNDC1 or SMNR, is a crucial component involved in spliceosome assembly within the SMN family. Its expression is observed in skeletal muscle, pancreas, and heart, where it localizes to Cajal bodies and nuclear speckles. A pivotal role of SPF30 lies in spliceosome assembly by interacting directly with five U snRNPs. Remarkably, the absence of SPF30 leads to a halt in spliceosome assembly at prespliceosomes (A complex), highlighting its significance in the recruitment and incorporation of U4/U5/U6 tri-snRNP to the prespliceosome.
