Overview | |
Description | PTCH1 is a receptor protein belonging to the patched family with multiple transmembrane domains. It functions as a receptor for three hedgehog proteins: sonic hedgehog (SHH), indian hedgehog (IHH), and desert hedgehog (DHH). This protein interacts with another protein called smoothened (SMO) to transmit the signals of the hedgehog proteins. Interestingly, PTCH1 is believed to have a role in suppressing tumor growth. It is suggested that deactivation of this protein may be a crucial step in the development of tumors. PTCH1 also interacts with a protein called SNX17. While it is not expressed in normal skin, it can be found in tumor cells. |
Other names | A230106A15Rik is a gene that is also known as BCNS, FLJ26746, FLJ42602, Holoprosencephaly 7, HPE7, mes, NBCCS, OTTHUMP00000021709, OTTHUMP00000021710, Patched, Patched (Drosophila) homolog, Patched 1, Patched homolog (Drosophila), Patched homolog 1 (Drosophila), Patched homolog 1, Patched protein homolog 1, Protein patched homolog 1, PTC, PTC1, PTC1_HUMAN, PTCH, PTCH protein +12b, PTCH protein +4', PTCH protein -10, PTCH protein, ptch1, PTCH1 protein, PTCH11, and Ptch2. It is a topic that revolves around the gene and its various names and aliases. PTCH1 is an important protein associated with various conditions and functions. |

Specificity | An antibody has been developed that can detect endogenous levels of total Patched. The patch has been patched up, meaning that it is highly effective in identifying the target protein and can distinguish between different forms of Patched. This breakthrough technology has great potential in both basic research and clinical applications, as it provides a reliable tool for studying cellular processes and identifying molecular markers for disease diagnosis and treatment. With this new tool in hand, scientists can now explore the intricate workings of the Patched signaling pathway and its role in various physiological and pathological conditions. |

Stability & Storage | To maintain the integrity of the product, it is recommended to store it at a temperature of -20 °C for a duration of one year. It is important to prevent any freezing and thawing cycles from occurring repeatedly. |
Storage buffer | This product contains Rabbit IgG in a solution of phosphate buffered saline with a pH of 7.4, 150mM NaCl, 0.02% sodium azide, and 50% glycerol. It should be stored at a temperature of -20 °C and is stable for up to 12 months from the date of receipt. |
Target | |
Background | This protein acts as a receptor for sonic hedgehog (SHH), indian hedgehog (IHH), and desert hedgehog (DHH). Its association with the smoothened protein (SMO) enables the transduction of hedgehog protein signals. Furthermore, the inactivation of this protein may function as a tumor suppressor. Hence, it is highly possible that its inactivation could signify a necessary, if not sufficient step in the tumorigenesis process. |
Tissue specificity | In the adult, expressed in brain, lung, liver, heart, placenta, skeletal muscle, pancreas and kidney. Expressed in tumor cells but not in normal skin. |
Posttranslational modification | Glycosylation is necessary for SHH binding. In the absence of Hh ligands, ubiquitination by ITCH at Lys-1426 promotes endocytosis and both proteasomal and lysosomal degradation. |
Celluar localization | Nucleus;Plasma Membrane; |
