It is commonly referred to as Granzyme M, GZM M, or simply Gzmm. This serine protease plays a crucial role in immune response and cytotoxicity. In humans, it is coded by the HU Met 1 gene, also known as HU-Met-1 or Met-ase. Lymphocyte met ase 1 is another name used to describe this protein. Its primary function is to induce apoptosis in target cells, contributing to the elimination of infected or cancerous cells. Granzyme M is an essential component of the immune system, actively participating in immune surveillance and defense mechanisms. Its precise mechanism of action and specific targets are still under investigation.
