GAD2 and GAD67 are both enzymes that play a crucial role in the production of GABA, an important neurotransmitter in the brain. Both enzymes are homodimers and belong to the group II decarboxylase family. GAD2 is involved in the synthesis of GABA in the brain, while GAD67 has wider tissue distribution and is also expressed in pancreatic islets, testis, adrenal cortex, and other endocrine tissues. However, isoform 3 of GAD67 is not expressed in the brain. GAD67 has three isoforms, which are produced by alternative splicing.
