Description

ACTR-IC, also known as ALK-7, is a type I serine/threonine kinase receptor called Activin receptor type 1C. It possesses an extracellular binding domain, an intracellular serine/threonine kinase domain preceded by a GS box, and a transmembrane domain. Its expression is found throughout the digestive and central nervous system, with localization to the cell surface. Through alternative splicing, four ACTR-IC transcripts are produced. Among these, transcript 1 represents the functional full-length receptor, while transcript 2 lacks a complete receptor binding domain. Transcripts 3 and 4 code for soluble proteins that do not possess a transmembrane domain.
ACTR-IC acts as a receptor for Activin AB, Activin B, and Nodal. In pancreatic cells, it forms a complex with Activin receptor type IIB (ACTR-IIB). The kinase domain of ACTR-IC is capable of activating both Smad2 and Smad3 signaling pathways. Interestingly, overexpression of ACTR-IC has been shown to induce apoptosis and inhibit cell proliferation in certain cell lines.
To summarize, ACTR-IC, also referred to as ALK-7, is a type I serine/threonine kinase receptor. It is expressed in various tissues and acts as a receptor for Activin AB, Activin B, and Nodal. ACTR-IC plays a role in pancreatic cells by forming a complex with ACTR-IIB and activating Smad2 and Smad3 signaling. Furthermore, its overexpression has been observed to induce apoptosis and inhibit cell proliferation in specific cell lines.

ApplicationThe recommended dilutions for Western blotting range from 1:500 to 1:2000, while for immunohistochemistry a dilution of 1:50 to 1:200 is suggested. When using ELISA with a peptide, the recommended dilutions are between 1:20000 to 1:40000. It's important to follow these dilution guidelines in order to obtain accurate and reliable results in your experiments. By adjusting the concentration of your primary antibody, you can optimize your protocols and enhance the specificity and sensitivity of your detection. So be sure to take note of the recommended dilutions and adjust accordingly for your experimental needs.

Target

Background

Serine/threonine protein kinase which forms a receptor complex on ligand binding. The receptor complex consisting of 2 type II and 2 type I transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. Type II receptors phosphorylate and activate type I receptors which autophosphorylate, then bind and activate SMAD transcriptional regulators, SMAD2 and SMAD3. Receptor for activin AB, activin B and NODAL. Plays a role in cell differentiation, growth arrest and apoptosis.

Tissue specificityPresent in pancreas, heart, colon, small intestine, ovary and the hippocampus, medulla oblongata and putamen of the brain. Isoform 1, isoform 2, isoform 3 and isoform 4 are all expressed in the placenta throughout pregnancy.
