Description

Our E.coli expression system is used to produce Recombinant Human Interferon-stimulated Gene 15. The gene of interest, which encodes Gly2-Gly157, is expressed with a 6His tag attached at the C-terminus.

Other names

ISG15, also known as interferon-induced 15 kDa protein, is an ubiquitin-like protein. It is closely related to interferon-induced 17 kDa protein, also known as IP17. These proteins share similarities with ubiquitin cross-reactive protein or hUCRP. ISG15, G1P2, and UCRP are alternative names for ubiquitin-like protein ISG15.

Concentration

Background

ISG15, a ubiquitin-like protein, undergoes conjugation to various cellular proteins upon stimulation by interferon-alpha and -beta. This process leads to diverse functions such as neutrophil chemotaxis, targeting of ligated proteins to intermediate filaments, intercellular signaling, and antiviral activity during viral infections. Although fused to intermediate filaments, ISG15 is sometimes secreted. Activation by IFN-alpha/beta or microbial challenge leads to conjugation of ISG15 to several proteins, but the biochemical consequences or functions of this process remain unclear. This modification does not lead to proteasomal degradation of the modified proteins. ISG15 has a specific chemotactic effect on neutrophils and stimulates them to release eosinophil chemotactic factors. Following interferon treatment, ISG15 can be detected in both free and conjugated forms and secreted by monocytes and lymphocytes, acting as a cytokine. ISG15 co-localizes with intermediate filaments within the cell, and ISGylation might impact the JAK-STAT pathway or neurological disorder symptoms.
