| Other names | CEP52, also known as 60S ribosomal protein L40, HUBCEP52, or RPL40, is an important protein involved in ribosomal function. It is encoded by the MGC126879 and MGC57125 genes. CEP52 is also known as UBA 52, as it contains a fusion of ubiquitin and a 52-amino acid residue ribosomal protein. Its alternative names include Ubiquitin 60S ribosomal protein L40, Ubiquitin A 52 residue ribosomal protein fusion product 1, and Ubiquitin carboxyl extension protein 52. This protein plays a crucial role in protein synthesis and is essential for the proper functioning of the ribosome. |

| Specificity | The total UBA52 levels in cells can be detected using the UBA52 Antibody which recognizes the endogenous expression of UBA52. Let's rearrange the above content to generate a highly similar statement: "The endogenous levels of total UBA52 can be detected using the UBA52 Antibody, ensuring accurate detection of UBA52 expression in cells." |

| purification | Peptide affinity chromatography was employed to purify the antiserum using SulfoLink™ Coupling Resin. The resin has proven to be an effective means of coupling peptides to support matrices for the purification of target proteins. The resulting purified antiserum can be used for a range of applications including immunodetection and immunoaffinity purification. This method offers a highly specific and efficient purification approach that minimizes sample loss and maximizes yield. |

Background | Ubiquitin: Exists either covalently attached to another protein, or free (unanchored). When covalently bound, it is conjugated to target proteins via an isopeptide bond either as a monomer (monoubiquitin), a polymer linked via different Lys residues of the ubiquitin (polyubiquitin chains) or a linear polymer linked via the initiator Met of the ubiquitin (linear polyubiquitin chains). Polyubiquitin chains, when attached to a target protein, have different functions depending on the Lys residue of the ubiquitin that is linked: Lys-6-linked may be involved in DNA repair; Lys-11-linked is involved in ERAD (endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation) and in cell-cycle regulation; Lys-29-linked is involved in lysosomal degradation; Lys-33-linked is involved in kinase modification; Lys-48-linked is involved in protein degradation via the proteasome; Lys-63-linked is involved in endocytosis, DNA-damage responses as well as in signaling processes leading to activation of the transcription factor NF-kappa-B. Linear polymer chains formed via attachment by the initiator Met lead to cell signaling. Ubiquitin is usually conjugated to Lys residues of target proteins, however, in rare cases, conjugation to Cys or Ser residues has been observed. When polyubiquitin is free (unanchored-polyubiquitin), it also has distinct roles, such as in activation of protein kinases, and in signaling. |
| Posttranslational modification | Ubiquitin: Phosphorylated at Ser-65 by PINK1 during mitophagy. Phosphorylated ubiquitin specifically binds and activates parkin (PRKN), triggering mitophagy (PubMed:24660806, PubMed:24751536, PubMed:24784582, PubMed:25527291). Phosphorylation does not affect E1-mediated E2 charging of ubiquitin but affects discharging of E2 enzymes to form polyubiquitin chains. It also affects deubiquitination by deubiquitinase enzymes such as USP30 (PubMed:25527291). |
