Description	This particular gene encodes a molecular chaperone that forms part of the chaperonin containing TCP1 complex, also referred to as the TCP1 ring complex. The complex is composed of two identical stacked rings, each consisting of eight diverse proteins. Unfolded polypeptides pass through the central cavity of the complex and are then folded with the assistance of ATP. The complex is responsible for folding several different types of proteins, including actin and tubulin. This gene has distinct alternate transcriptional splice variants that give rise to different isoforms. Additionally, researchers have identified three pseudogenes believed to originate from this gene.
Other names	The protein known as CCT alpha, also referred to as CCT1, CCT-alpha, or TCP-1 alpha, is encoded by the TRIC gene. It is a subunit of the T-complex protein 1 (TCP1) and is involved in the folding and assembly of actin, tubulin, and other cytoskeletal proteins. This protein has also been shown to play a role in the development of certain cancers and genetic disorders. In addition to its role in protein folding and assembly, CCT alpha has also been identified as a potential therapeutic target for diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Studies have shown that modulating the activity of this protein may help to mitigate the toxic effects of misfolded proteins in these diseases.
