Description	This particular gene is responsible for encoding a pancreatic secretory protein. Its function may include the regulation of cell proliferation or differentiation, and it belongs to the C-type lectin superfamily. Other names	Regenerating islet-derived protein 3-alpha (REG3A), also known as pancreatitis-associated protein 1 (PAP), is a protein that plays a role in the growth and development of pancreatic beta cells. HIP (Hepatointestinal pancreatic protein), HIP/PAP, and Proliferation inducing protein 34 and 42 are alternative names for REG3A/PAP. FLJ18565 is a gene that encodes this protein. REG3A is also referred to as Reg III alpha or Reg III-alpha. The protein is found in a precursor form and is produced by pancreatic beta cells. Its function is to stimulate the proliferation of pancreatic beta cells, promoting the growth and repair of the pancreas.
