Description	PHPT1, also referred to as 14 kDaphosphohistidine phosphatase, is an enzyme belonging to the Janus protein family. This EDTA-insensitive phosphohistidine phosphatase is made up of 125 amino acids and is found as a monomer in the cytoplasm. While first identified in human adrenal gland, PHPT1 is highly expressed in the heart and skeletal muscle with lower expression in liver, kidney and pancreas. With the ability to specifically target phosphopeptide I, PHPT1 overexpression results in phosphohistidine phosphatase activity with no detection of activity towards phosphoserine, phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine peptides. Its high conservation across species suggests that it plays a fundamental functional role.
