Description	Lysosomal-associated membrane protein 2 (LAMP2) is a glycoprotein that belongs to a family of membrane glycoproteins. It is also known as LAMPB or CD107b. This protein is involved in providing selectins with carbohydrate ligands, which play a role in various cellular processes. One such process is tumor cell metastasis, where LAMP2 may have a significant impact. Additionally, LAMP2 functions in the protection, maintenance, and adhesion of the lysosome. Initially, LAMP2 exists as a 45 kDa polypeptide before undergoing posttranslational modification. Following modification, it becomes a mature, functional protein with extensive glycosylation. This glycosylation involves the addition of different types of oligosaccharides, including N-linked and O-linked, resulting in a higher molecular weight of approximately 100-110 kDa. In summary, LAMP2 is a membrane glycoprotein that interacts with selectins through carbohydrate ligands. It has implications in tumor cell metastasis and performs essential functions in lysosome protection, maintenance, and adhesion. LAMP2 undergoes posttranslational modification, resulting in extensive glycosylation and an increase in molecular weight.
Other names	LAMP-2, also known as CD107 antigen-like family member B or CD107b, is a lysosomal associated membrane protein 2. It is a glycoprotein that belongs to the CD107 antigen-like family. LAMP-2 is important for regulating the fusion of lysosomes with autophagosomes and endosomes. It also plays a role in the degradation of proteins in the lysosome and in antigen presentation. LAMP-2 has different isoforms, including LAMP-2C, which is found specifically in the heart and skeletal muscle. Other names for LAMP-2 include LGP96, MAC3, and lysosome associated membrane glycoprotein 2.
