Description | IL-6, also known as interleukin-6, is a versatile cytokine that is produced by various cells in response to infection, trauma, and immune challenges (PMID: 8274730). Its signaling activity relies on a receptor complex composed of two different membrane-bound glycoproteins: the IL-6-binding subunit (IL-6R or CD126 or gp80) and the signal-transducing element (gp130 or CD130), weighing 80-kDa and 130-kDa, respectively. Upon binding of IL-6 to the IL-6R on the cell membrane, the IL-6/IL-6R complex associates with gp130, initiating receptor activation (PMID: 9716487). |
| Other names | The IL-6 receptor alpha chain, also known as CD126 or CD126 antigen, is a transmembrane glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in mediating the effects of interleukin-6 (IL-6). It is encoded by the IL6R gene and is involved in various biological processes, including inflammation, immune response, and hematopoiesis. The IL-6 receptor alpha is also responsible for forming a signaling complex with other receptor chains, such as the IL-6 receptor beta, to initiate downstream signaling cascades. Understanding the function and regulation of IL-6 receptor alpha can provide valuable insights into the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases and may lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies. |

| Specificity | The IL-6R Antibody can effectively detect the total levels of endogenous IL-6R. This means that it can accurately identify and quantify the levels of IL-6R in a given sample, providing valuable insights into the immune response and various inflammatory conditions. By using this antibody, researchers can gain a better understanding of how IL-6R functions in the body and how it may be targeted to treat a range of diseases. |
| Species Reactivity | Human;Mouse |
| Antigen | IL-6R |
| Application | The recommended dilutions for using the antibody to detect specific proteins in different assays are as follows: in Western blotting, use at dilutions of 1:500-1:2000; in immunohistochemistry, use at dilutions of 1:50-1:200; and in ELISA assays using peptides, use at dilutions of 1:20000-1:40000. These dilutions have been optimized and tested to provide the best results in each assay. It is important to note, however, that optimal dilutions may vary for different samples and experimental conditions, and it is recommended to perform titration experiments to determine the optimal dilution for individual applications. |

Target | |
Background | Part of the receptor for interleukin 6. Binds to IL6 with low affinity, but does not transduce a signal. Signal activation necessitate an association with IL6ST. Activation may lead to the regulation of the immune response, acute-phase reactions and hematopoiesis. |
| Tissue specificity | Isoform 2 is expressed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and weakly found in urine and serum. |
| Posttranslational modification | A short soluble form may also be released from the membrane by proteolysis. |
| Celluar localization | Extracellular region or secreted;Plasma Membrane; |
