It belongs to the cathepsin family of proteases and is primarily expressed in cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Cytotoxic serine protease C, CSP-C or Granzyme H, is another name for this protein. It plays a crucial role in cell-mediated immunity by cleaving specific substrates in target cells, leading to their apoptosis. CGL2 and CTSGL2 are alternative names for this protein, highlighting its similarity to cathepsin G. It is also known as CTLA1 or cytotoxic T-lymphocyte proteinase.
