Description | The type I receptors of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, BMPR1A and BMPR1B, as well as the type II receptor BMPR2, are transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. These receptors share a close relationship with the activin receptors ACVR1 and ACVR2. Ligands for these receptors belong to the TGF-beta superfamily. Signaling for TGF-betas and activins occurs through the formation of complexes comprising two types of serine (threonine) kinase receptors: type I receptors weighing around 50-55 kD, and type II receptors weighing around 70-80 kD. Type II receptors can bind ligands independently of type I receptors, but they rely on their respective type I receptors for signaling. On the other hand, type I receptors require their respective type II receptors to bind ligands. |
| Other names | Activin A receptor type II like kinase 3, also known as Activin receptor like kinase 3 or ALK 3, is a protein that plays a vital role in cellular signaling pathways. It belongs to the bone morphogenetic protein receptor family and is involved in various biological processes. ACVRLK3, or ALK-3, is an important serine threonine protein kinase receptor. It is also referred to as BMP type-1A receptor or BMPR-1A. CD292 antigen is another name for this receptor. This receptor is responsible for mediating the effects of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), which regulate cell growth, differentiation, and development. It is involved in embryogenesis, skeletal development, and angiogenesis. The zBMPRIA, or zBMPR IA, is the counterpart of this receptor in zebrafish. It has similar functions and plays a crucial role in embryonic development in these organisms. Overall, ACVRLK3/ALK-3/BMPR-1A is a key player in cellular signaling pathways and is essential for proper development and tissue homeostasis. Its dysregulation has been implicated in various diseases, including cardiovascular disorders and cancer. Understanding the functions of this receptor can offer valuable insights into these pathological conditions and potentially lead to the development of targeted therapies. |

| Application | For Western blotting, a suggested dilution range is 1:500 to 1:2000. Immunohistochemistry may require a dilution of 1:50 to 1:200, while for immunofluorescence/immunocytochemistry, a dilution of 1:100 to 1:500 may be appropriate. For ELISA using peptide, the suggested dilution range is 1:20000 to 1:40000. Remember to optimize the dilution factors based on your individual experiment and sample. |

Background | On ligand binding, forms a receptor complex consisting of two type II and two type I transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. Type II receptors phosphorylate and activate type I receptors which autophosphorylate, then bind and activate SMAD transcriptional regulators. Receptor for BMP2, BMP4, GDF5 and GDF6. Positively regulates chondrocyte differentiation through GDF5 interaction. Mediates induction of adipogenesis by GDF6. |
| Tissue specificity | Highly expressed in skeletal muscle. |
