The type I receptors of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family, BMPR1A and BMPR1B, as well as the type II receptor BMPR2, are transmembrane serine/threonine kinases. These receptors share a close relationship with the activin receptors ACVR1 and ACVR2. Ligands for these receptors belong to the TGF-beta superfamily.
