Overview

Other names

Alpha sarcomeric actin, also known as alpha smooth muscle actin (ASMA) or ASM-A, is a type of actin protein that is commonly found in smooth muscle cells. It is also referred to as alpha-SMA, alpha SMA, AAT6, ACTA2, Actin alpha 2 smooth muscle aorta, Actin aortic smooth muscle, ACTSA or ACTVS.
This protein is essential for the contraction and movement of smooth muscle cells. It plays a critical role in various bodily functions such as controlling blood pressure, regulating intestinal contractions and aiding in the healing process of wounded tissues.
Other names associated with alpha sarcomeric actin include alpha 2 actin, alpha cardiac actin, alpha-actin 2, cell growth inhibiting gene 46 protein, and growth inhibiting gene 46. Its functions, as indicated by its various names, are vital for the proper functioning of the human body.
In addition to being present in smooth muscle cells, alpha sarcomeric actin can also be found in cardiac muscle cells. As a result, it plays a pivotal role in maintaining the structure and function of the heart. Its ability to regulate cell growth and inhibit tumor formation has made it an important protein in the field of cancer research.
Overall, the alpha sarcomeric actin protein is a critical component of the human body, playing various essential roles in muscle contraction, healing, and the regulation of bodily functions.

Application

The dilution ratios for different assays are as follows:
- Western Blot (WB): 1:5000-20000
- Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA): 1:500-1000
- Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P): 1:400-800
- Immunohistochemistry-Frozen (IHC-F): 1:400-800
- Flow Cytometry (Flow-Cyt): 1μg/Test
- Immunocytochemistry (ICC): 1:100-500
- Immunofluorescence (IF): 1:100-500 (Antigen retrieval required for paraffin sections).
Please note that the dilution ratios may vary depending on the specific requirements of the experiment or sample.

Immunogen

A synthetic peptide has been created by conjugating KLH with human alpha-SMA:165-260/377. The peptide sequence has been derived from this specific region of the protein. To ensure the highest level of similarity between the generated content and the source material, rearranging the original content has been done.

Stability & Storage

To ensure the longevity of the product, it is recommended to store it at a temperature of -20 °C for up to one year. It is important to avoid subjecting the product to repeated cycles of freezing and thawing, as this may affect its efficacy.

Storage buffer

How about we try this: a solution made up of TBS with a pH of 7.4, containing 1% BSA, 0.03% Proclin300 and 50% glycerol to stabilize and protect the proteins.

Background

All eukaryotic cells express Actin, which often constitutes as much as 50% of total cellular protein. Actin filaments can form both stable and labile structures and are crucial components of microvilli and the contractile apparatus of muscle cells. While lower eukaryotes, such as yeast, have only one Actin gene, higher eukaryotes have several isoforms encoded by a family of genes. At least six types of Actin are present in mammalian tissues and fall into three classes. alpha-Actin expression is limited to various types of muscle, whereas beta- and gamma-Actin are the principle constituents of filaments in other tissues. Members of the small GTPase family regulate the organization of the Actin cytoskeleton. Rho controls the assembly of Actin stress fibers and focal adhesion. Rac regulates Actin filament accumulation at the plasma membrane. Cdc42 stimulates formation of filopodia.
