Background

IgG, also known as Immunoglobulin G, is an abundant protein found in serum. In adult blood, the normal levels of IgG range from 8-17 mg/mL. This essential protein plays a crucial role in our adaptive immune response, as it is produced by B lymphocytes in response to microorganisms and foreign molecules. The functions of IgG are twofold: it binds to the specific pathogen that triggered the immune response and recruits other cells and molecules to eliminate the antigen. The diversity of the IgG pool is created through somatic recombination, resulting in approximately 1011 variants of specificities in an individual at a given time.
