Description	UAP1 is a member of the DPGP type 1 protein family. Its chief function is to transform UDP and GlcNAc-1-P into UDP-GlcNAc, and UDP and GalNAc-1-P into UDP-GalNAc. While isoform AGX1 has a higher activity level towards GalNAc-1-P, isoform AGX2 shows 8 times higher activity towards GlcNAc-1-P (1). To put it differently, the two isoforms of UAP1 exhibit distinct preferences in terms of their enzymatic activities, with AGX1 displaying specific affinity towards GalNAc-1-P and AGX2 being more efficient in processing GlcNAc-1-P.
Other names	AGX 1, also known as AGX or AGX-1, is a protein that plays a role in the immune system. It is also referred to as Antigen X or AntigenX, as well as SPAG 2 or SPAG2. Another name for this protein is Sperm Associated Antigen 2 or Sperm-associated antigen 2, and it is also known as UAP 1 or UAP1. Additionally, this protein is called UDP N acetylhexosamine pyrophosphorylase or UDP N acetylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase 1, and its gene is mapped as UAP1_HUMAN.
