Description | This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the PDGF/VEGF family and plays a vital role in angiogenesis and the growth of endothelial cells. The protein is also known to affect the permeability of blood vessels. The secreted protein goes through a complex proteolytic maturation process, generating multiple forms that activate VEGFR-3 receptors. However, only the fully processed form has the ability to activate VEGFR-2 receptors. Vascular endothelial growth factor D shares structural and functional similarities with this protein. |
| Other names | The FLT4 ligand, also known as Flt4L or Vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C), is a type of growth factor that plays an important role in lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis. It is a member of the VEGF family of proteins and is closely related to VEGF-A and VEGF-B. The FLT4 ligand DHM and Flt4-L are also alternative names given to this protein. VEGF-C is implicated in a number of physiological and pathological processes, including cancer metastasis, wound healing, and lymphedema. It acts by binding to and activating the FLT4 receptor, which is expressed on the surface of endothelial cells. The human VEGFC gene encodes for the VEGF-C protein, which consists of 419 amino acids. Alternative splicing of the gene can produce several isoforms of VEGF-C, which differ in their biological activity and tissue distribution. VRP and Vegfc are other names given to this protein. Understanding the structure and function of FLT4 ligand and its receptor has important implications for the development of new therapies for cancer, lymphedema, and other diseases. Further research in this area is critical for advancing our knowledge of the biological mechanisms underlying these conditions. |

| Specificity | The VEGFC Antibody is capable of detecting total VEGFC levels that occur naturally within the body. The detection process is designed to measure endogenous levels, ensuring that accurate readings are obtained. |

| Predictive reaction species | Pig;Rabbit;Sheep;Dog;Bovine |
| Antigen | VEGFC |
| Application | The recommended dilution for Western blotting ranges from 1:500 to 1:2000, while for immunohistochemistry it is between 1:50 and 1:200. If performing an ELISA with a peptide substrate, the suitable dilution range is 1:20000 to 1:40000. It is important to follow these guidelines to ensure accurate and reliable results in your experiments. |

Background | Growth factor active in angiogenesis, and endothelial cell growth, stimulating their proliferation and migration and also has effects on the permeability of blood vessels. May function in angiogenesis of the venous and lymphatic vascular systems during embryogenesis, and also in the maintenance of differentiated lymphatic endothelium in adults. Binds and activates KDR/VEGFR2 and FLT4/VEGFR3 receptors. |
| Tissue specificity | Spleen, lymph node, thymus, appendix, bone marrow, heart, placenta, ovary, skeletal muscle, prostate, testis, colon and small intestine and fetal liver, lung and kidney, but not in peripheral blood lymphocyte. |
| Posttranslational modification | Undergoes a complex proteolytic maturation which generates a variety of processed secreted forms with increased activity toward VEGFR-3, but only the fully processed form could activate VEGFR-2. VEGF-C first form an antiparallel homodimer linked by disulfide bonds. Before secretion, a cleavage occurs between Arg-227 and Ser-228 producing a heterotetramer. The next extracellular step of the processing removes the N-terminal propeptide. Finally the mature VEGF-C is composed mostly of two VEGF homology domains (VHDs) bound by non-covalent interactions. |
| Celluar localization | Extracellular region or secreted; |
