As a pre-mRNA-splicing factor syf2, SYF2 homolog is involved in the processing of precursor messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) to mature mRNA, which involves the removal of introns and the ligation of exons. In humans, SYF2 homolog is a critical component of the spliceosome, a complex of RNA and protein molecules that catalyzes the splicing of pre-mRNA. This protein interacts with CCNDBP1, a kinase that regulates cell division and apoptosis, and may play a role in cell cycle progression and cancer development. Additionally, as a GCIP interacting protein p29, SYF2 homolog is involved in the regulation of gene expression and RNA processing.
