Description

This particular gene is responsible for encoding a glycoprotein that is located on the surface of the cell membrane. It is classified as a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein and consists of two Ig-like C2-type domains along with an Ig-like V-type domain. The primary role of this protein is to be one of the crucial components found in adherens junctions within the plasma membrane.
Interestingly, this gene also serves as an entry point for certain mutant strains of the herpes simplex virus and pseudorabies virus. It plays a significant role in facilitating the cell-to-cell spreading of these viruses within the body. This finding highlights the importance of this gene in viral infections and transmission.
Furthermore, variations in this particular gene have been identified and linked to variations in the severity of multiple sclerosis. This suggests that the gene plays a role in the development and progression of this autoimmune disease. By studying the different isoforms of this gene, researchers have gained insights into the mechanisms underlying the variations in multiple sclerosis severity.
It is worth mentioning that scientists have identified alternate transcriptional splice variants of this gene. These variants produce different isoforms of the protein encoded by this gene. This further adds to the complexity and diversity of this gene and its functions.
In summary, this gene encodes a type I membrane glycoprotein with specific structural domains. It is involved in the formation of adherens junctions in the cell membrane and acts as an entry point for certain viral strains. Additionally, it has been associated with variations in the severity of multiple sclerosis. The discovery of alternate transcriptional splice variants further emphasizes the functional diversity of this gene.

Other namesThe CD112 antigen, also known as Herpes virus entry mediator B or Hve B, is a protein involved in herpes virus entry. It is also referred to as Herpes virus entry protein B, Herpesvirus entry mediator B, or Herpesvirus entry protein B. Another name for CD112 is Nectin-2 or Nectin2. It is also called Poliovirus receptor like 2 or Poliovirus receptor related 2 (herpesvirus entry mediator B). Additionally, it is known as Poliovirus receptor related protein 2 or Poliovirus receptor-related protein 2. The abbreviation for CD112 is PRR2 or PRR 2, and it is sometimes denoted as PVRL 2 or PVRL2. The human gene symbol for CD112 is PVRR2.

ApplicationThe dilution range for Western blotting (WB) is typically from 1:500 to 1:2000. For immunohistochemistry (IHC), the recommended dilution range is 1:50 to 1:200. When performing ELISA with a peptide, the suggested dilution range is 1:20000 to 1:40000. These dilution ranges are important for obtaining accurate and reliable results in these experimental techniques.

Target

Background

Modulator of T-cell signaling. Can be either a costimulator of T-cell function, or a coinhibitor, depending on the receptor it binds to. Upon binding to CD226, stimulates T-cell proliferation and cytokine production, including that of IL2, IL5, IL10, IL13, and IFNG. Upon interaction with PVRIG, inhibits T-cell proliferation. These interactions are competitive (PubMed:26755705). Probable cell adhesion protein (PubMed:9657005).

Tissue specificityUbiquitous.
