It is encoded by the KIAA1124 gene and is related to the myotonic dystrophy kinase family. The myotonic dystrophy kinase-related CDC42-binding kinase beta plays an important role in a variety of cellular processes, including cell adhesion, migration, and cytoskeletal rearrangement. The protein kinase MRCK beta is also involved in the regulation of cell shape and motility, and may act as a downstream effector of Rho signaling pathways. The function of the myotonic dystrophy protein kinase-like beta is still being studied, but it is believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of myotonic dystrophy.
