| Other names | C-C motif chemokine 2, also known as CCL2, is a chemokine that plays an essential role in the immune response. This protein is encoded by the CCL2 gene in humans and is also referred to as MCP-1 (monocyte chemoattractant protein 1). It is a cytokine belonging to the CC (cysteine-cysteine) chemokine family and is involved in recruiting monocytes, T-cells, and other leukocytes to sites of inflammation. The protein's full name is Small Inducible Cytokine A2, which is homologous to a mouse protein called SIGJE or JE. Other names used for this protein include Monocyte Chemoattractant and Activating Factor (MCAF), Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 (MCP-1), and Monocyte Secretory Protein JE. CCL2 is produced by a variety of cells, including monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells. It binds to the chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4, promoting leukocyte migration and activation. CCL2 is involved in several pathological conditions, including atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer, making it a potential target for therapeutic intervention. |

| Specificity | The total MCP-1 can be detected by the MCP-1 Antibody, which specifically targets the endogenous levels of this protein. |
| Species Reactivity | Human;Mouse;Rat |
| Antigen | MCP-1 |
| Application | Detection of a specific protein with a Western Blot assay can be performed at a dilution range of 1:1000-3000, while Immunohistochemistry (IHC) requires a dilution of 1:200. For Immunofluorescence and Immunocytochemistry (IF/ICC), a dilution of 1:100-1:500 is recommended. Finally, for peptide-based Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), the optimal dilution range is 1:20000-1:40000. These dilutions are crucial in achieving accurate and reliable results when detecting target proteins. |

| Stability & Storage | To maintain the quality of the product, it is recommended to store it at a temperature of -20 °C for a period of one year. It is important to avoid subjecting the product to repeated freeze/thaw cycles, as this can compromise its stability and efficacy. Therefore, it is essential to handle the product with care and store it properly in order to ensure its optimal performance. |

Target | |
Background | Chemotactic factor that attracts monocytes and basophils but not neutrophils or eosinophils. Augments monocyte anti-tumor activity. Has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or atherosclerosis. May be involved in the recruitment of monocytes into the arterial wall during the disease process of atherosclerosis. |
| Tissue specificity | Expressed in the seminal plasma, endometrial fluid and follicular fluid (at protein level). |
| Posttranslational modification | Processing at the N-terminus can regulate receptor and target cell selectivity. Deletion of the N-terminal residue converts it from an activator of basophil to an eosinophil chemoattractant. |
| Celluar localization | Endoplasmic reticulum;Extracellular region or secreted; |
| UniPort | P13500 |
