Description

CXCL8 is a chemokine protein associated with various biological functions. It is also known as interleukin-8 (IL-8) or neutrophil-activating peptide 1 (NAP-1). Other names for CXCL8 include GCP-1, Emoctakin, and TSG1. CXCL8 plays a crucial role in inflammation and immune response by promoting the recruitment and activation of neutrophils, which are a type of white blood cell. Its amino acid sequence consists of 77 amino acids in the Ala-IL-8 isoform and 72 amino acids in the Ser-IL-8 isoform. IL-8(6-77) has a 5-10-fold higher activity on neutrophil activation, IL-8(5-77) has increased activity on neutrophil activation and IL-8(7-77) has a higher affinity to receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 as compared to IL-8(1-77), respectively.
