Description

CDK11, a member of the protein kinase superfamily, is classified under the CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family within the CDC2/CDKX subfamily. The alternative splicing mechanism in humans leads to the production of 2 isoforms of this protein.

The human gene CD11A also goes by the names CDC2L2, CDC2L3, CDK11, CDK11 p110, CDK11 p46, CDK11 p58, CDK11A, Galactosyltransferase-associated protein kinase p58/GTA, p58GTA, PITSLRE, PITSLRE B, PITSLRE protein kinase beta, PITSLRE serine/threonine-protein kinase CDC2L2, and PITSLREB. It belongs to the group of PITSLRE proteins, also known as cell division cycle 2-like protein kinases. CD11A is a cyclin-dependent kinase and a cell division protein kinase that plays a key role in cell division. Another member of the PITSLRE family is CDK11, which also goes by the names CDC2L1, Cell division cycle 2-like protein kinase 1, Cell division protein kinase 11B, CLK 1, Galactosyltransferase associated protein kinase p58/GTA, ITSLRE serine/threonine protein kinase CDC2L1, p58 CLK 1, PITSLREA, and PK58. Both CD11A and CDK11 are serine/threonine-protein kinases, which means they transfer phosphate groups from ATP to serine or threonine residues in target proteins. CD11A and CDK11 are involved in a range of cellular processes, including transcription, RNA splicing, and apoptosis.

Target

Background

This protein appears to have multiple roles in regulating various cellular processes including cell cycle progression, cytokinesis, and apoptosis.
