Other names	The Anoctamin 1 protein, also known as ANO1, ANO1_HUMAN, or Calcium Activated Chloride Channel, is a membrane protein that forms a Ca2+ activated Cl- channel. It was discovered on gastrointestinal stromal tumors and is also referred to as Discovered on gastrointestinal stromal tumors protein 1 or DOG1. ANO1 is encoded by the TMEM16A gene, which is located on human chromosome 11. The protein has eight membrane spanning domains and is also known as Transmembrane protein 16A. ANO1 is highly expressed in several cancers, including oral cancer, and is also referred to as Tumor amplified and overexpressed sequence 2 or TAOS2, and Oral cancer overexpressed protein 2 or ORAOV2.
