It is encoded by the AYTL3 gene and is also referred to as Lpcat4, LPEAT2, or Lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase eta. Eta acyltransferase plays a crucial role in the synthesis of lysophosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidylcholine by catalyzing the acylation of sn-glycerol 3-phosphate and 1-acyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphate, respectively. This enzyme is responsible for the transfer of an acyl group from a donor molecule to these substrates, resulting in the production of important lipid molecules.
