Overview | |
Description | BAX is a protein that plays a crucial role in programmed cell death. It achieves this by binding to and counteracting the apoptosis repressor BCL2, or its adenovirus homolog E1B 19k protein. Consequently, it triggers the release of cytochrome c, CASP3 activation, and ultimately apoptosis. BAX belongs to the Bcl-2 family and can form a homodimer or heterodimers with various other family members, including BCL2, E1B 19k protein, BCL2L1 isoform Bcl-X(L), MCL1, and A1. Additionally, it interacts with SH3GLB1, HN, SFN, and YWHAZ, where the latter two cytoplasmic interactions release BAX to mitochondria under stress conditions. Moreover, isoform Sigma interacts with BCL2A1 and BCL2L1 isoform Bcl-X(L). There are eight different isoforms of the human protein, which arise from alternative splicing. |
Other names | BAX is a critical regulator of apoptosis, also known as programmed cell death. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance between cell survival and cell death. The BAX protein, encoded by the BAX gene in humans, is a key player in the apoptotic pathway. |
Source | Rabbit |
Specificity | Endogenous levels of total Bax can be accurately detected by the Bax antibody. A similar content can be generated by rearranging the original text as follows: The Bax antibody is capable of specifically detecting the levels of total Bax expressed naturally within the organism. |

Application | You can use this antibody for multiple applications with different dilutions depending on your experiment requirements. For Western Blotting, the suggested dilution range is 1:500 to 1:3000. For Immunofluorescence and Immunocytochemistry, a recommended dilution range is between 1:100 to 1:500. Additionally, for peptide ELISA, the ideal dilution factor is suggested at 1:20000 to 1:40000. Be sure to optimize the antibody concentration for your specific assay. |

Stability & Storage | To preserve the quality of the product, it is recommended to store it at -20 °C for a period of one year. It is essential to take precautions and avoid subjecting the product to repeated freeze/thaw cycles, as doing so may affect its properties and functionality. It is important to follow the recommended storage conditions to ensure the best possible performance of the product. |
Storage buffer | The Rabbit IgG is stored in a solution of phosphate buffered saline with a pH of 7.4. It also contains 150mM NaCl, 0.02% sodium azide, and 50% glycerol. It is recommended to store it at a temperature of -20 °C. The stability of the Rabbit IgG is guaranteed for a period of 12 months from the date of receipt. |
Target | |
Background | Accelerates programmed cell death by binding to, and antagonizing the apoptosis repressor BCL2 or its adenovirus homolog E1B 19k protein. Under stress conditions, undergoes a conformation change that causes translocation to the mitochondrion membrane, leading to the release of cytochrome c that then triggers apoptosis. Promotes activation of CASP3, and thereby apoptosis. |
Tissue specificity | Expressed in a wide variety of tissues. Isoform Psi is found in glial tumors. Isoform Alpha is expressed in spleen, breast, ovary, testis, colon and brain, and at low levels in skin and lung. Isoform Sigma is expressed in spleen, breast, ovary, testis, lung, colon, brain and at low levels in skin. Isoform Alpha and isoform Sigma are expressed in pro-myelocytic leukemia, histiocytic lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, T-cell lymphoma, lymphoblastic leukemia, breast adenocarcinoma, ovary adenocarcinoma, prostate carcinoma, prostate adenocarcinoma, lung carcinoma, epidermoid carcinoma, small cell lung carcinoma and colon adenocarcinoma cell lines. |
