It is commonly referred to as ERC-1 or ERC protein 1 and also known as RAB6 interacting protein 2 or RAB6IP2. It belongs to the CAST family of proteins and is involved in synaptic vesicle trafficking and neurotransmitter release. This protein interacts with RAB6, a small GTPase involved in intracellular transport and may facilitate the transport of proteins to the synaptic vesicles. In addition to its role in neurotransmitter release, ERC-1 has been linked to various neurological disorders including epilepsy, schizophrenia, and autism.
