Overview

Other names

IL18 is a cytokine that is also known as interferon-gamma-inducing factor (IGIF), interferon gamma-inducing factor, or interleukin-1 gamma. It is encoded by the IL18 gene and is a member of the IL-1 superfamily. IL18 plays a crucial role in the immune response by inducing the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). It is involved in the regulation of various immune processes, including inflammation and host defense against pathogens.
IL18 is produced by several cell types, including macrophages, dendritic cells, and T lymphocytes. It can be induced by various stimuli, such as microbial products, cytokines, and Toll-like receptor ligands. Once produced, IL18 acts on its receptor, which is expressed by a wide range of cells, including T cells, NK cells, and dendritic cells. The binding of IL18 to its receptor triggers a signaling cascade that leads to the production of IFN-gamma.
IFN-gamma is a potent cytokine with numerous immunoregulatory functions. It is involved in activating macrophages, enhancing antigen presentation, and promoting T cell differentiation. Additionally, IFN-gamma plays a crucial role in immune surveillance against tumors and intracellular pathogens.
IL18 has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and cancer. Dysregulated IL18 expression and signaling have been associated with the development and progression of these diseases. Therefore, targeting IL18 or its signaling pathways has been explored as a potential therapeutic strategy.
In summary, IL18 is a cytokine that induces the production of IFN-gamma and plays a critical role in immune regulation. It has diverse functions in the immune response and is involved in various pathological conditions. Understanding the biology of IL18 may provide insights into the development of new therapeutic approaches for immune-related diseases.

Application

Here are some alternative ways to phrase the same information:
- The dilution range for WB is 1:500 to 1:2000, while for ELISA it is 1:500 to 1:1000. For IHC-P and IHC-F, the recommended dilution range is 1:400 to 1:800. IF has a dilution range of 1:100 to 1:500 and requires antigen retrieval when used on paraffin sections.
- If you want to use WB, you should dilute your sample from 1:500 to 1:2000, and for ELISA, the recommended dilution range is 1:500 to 1:1000. IHC-P and IHC-F require a dilution of 1:400 to 1:800, while IF needs a dilution of 1:100 to 1:500 and pre-treatment for paraffin sections.
- Depending on the application, the recommended dilution range for this antibody can vary. WB requires a dilution from 1:500 to 1:2000, while ELISA has a dilution range of 1:500 to 1:1000. IHC-P and IHC-F can be used at 1:400 to 1:800 dilutions, while IF requires a dilution of 1:100 to 1:500 and pre-treatment for paraffin sections.
- Dilution factors are a critical consideration when using this antibody. WB should be performed at dilutions between 1:500 and 1:2000, while ELISA has a range of 1:500 to 1:1000. IHC-P and IHC-F work best when diluted 1:400 to 1:800, and for IF, the recommended range is 1:100 to 1:500 with antigen retrieval needed for paraffin sections.

Background

IL18, also known as IFN-gamma-inducing factor or IGIF, is a recently discovered cytokine with potent pro-inflammatory properties. It exhibits the ability to enhance the activity of natural killer (NK) cells in the spleen. Furthermore, IL18 is capable of inducing the production of IFN-gamma by T cells. Interestingly, when IL18 is combined with another cytokine called IL12, it can effectively suppress the production of IgE and IgG1, which are dependent on IL4. On the other hand, it promotes the production of IgG2a by B cells. It is worth noting that IL18 binding protein (IL18BP) can specifically interact with IL18 and exert a negative regulatory effect on its biological activity.
IL18 also has other biological properties such as stimulation of Fas ligand expression, and induction of CC and CXC chemokines. IL18 increases production of competent HIV. IL18 is related to the IL1 family. One of the IL18 receptor chains is the IL1 receptor-related protein, a member of the IL 1R family. Like IL1 , IL18 is first synthesized as a leaderless precursor requiring the IL1 converting enzyme (ICE) for cleavage into an active molecule. IL18 may play a role in tissue injury in inflammatory reactions.
